Nutrition Success - Mara's Weight Loss Story
Mara's Story:
"I'm a 22 year old nursing student with a hectic, on the go, and constantly changing lifestyle. I used to be cavalier about my eating habits thinking my metabolism would just take care of it. However, 4 years of this led to gaining 50 pounds, and I knew I had to make a change. My eating habits were horrible: lots of soda, fast food, candy, cookies, cake, social drinking, and late night eating. I sometimes even found myself eating when I wasn’t hungry."
Our Perspective:
In some ways, Mara seemed like your “typical” college student: a tad wreck-less with her nutrition and really searching for guidance. From a weight loss stand point, Mara was consuming too may carbohydrates and processed sugars, which lead to her weight gain. It was our nutritionist's goal to teach Mara how to balance her genuine love for great food with healthy sensible eating. A full-time college student, who frequently travels abroad was not the typical client case, but one we were excited to embark on together.

Mara shares how she works with OnPoint Nutritionists to improve her eating habits through virtual counseling and logging her food online.
She explains how picking what she eats within a meal outline and speaking with a nutritionist twice a week has fostered sustained, gradual weight loss

Q: What prompted you to begin working with OnPoint Nutrition?
A: I wasn’t sure what else to do. My previous attempts did not result in weight loss, and I continued to gain more and more weight. Initially, my goal was strictly weight loss. That idea evolved into learning how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, so I never have significant issues with my weight ever gain. I really liked the flexibility and attentiveness that OnPoint offers.

Q: What have you learned since you began to work with the nutritionists at OnPoint Nutrition?
A: I have learned so much about appropriate portion size, what types of food I should eat when my days are longer, when to have heavier meals, and what other factors can affect my weight. My biggest lesson learned is how to balance my days, especially when it comes to starches. If one day or meal is particularly heavy, make the next day or meal a bit lighter. Although it seems simple, it was hard to implement without some guidance.

Q: What has changed since working with OnPoint?
A: I have lost 28 lbs. to date, about halfway to my goal! I feel awesome. My energy level has increased, I have fewer aches and pains (I’m 22 and I felt 60), and I feel more confident. It just feels good to put on clothes I haven’t worn in so long and have them fit or even be too big! It’s been happening a lot lately…
