Nutrition Success - Anita's Weight Loss Story

Anita's Story:

"Over the past 20 years, I have tried skipping meals, Weight Watchers, weight loss groups at work, and even cutting my diet to 1,200 calories per day, only to gain back all the weight.  I did not want to be on a diet all my life with restrictions to certain foods.  In my mind, it was easier to buy bigger clothes and avoid a greuling diet.  I used to blame my weight issues on "baby fat" instead of holding myself accountable to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”

Our Perspective:

Anita was not taking the time to focus on her own health and well-being.  From a strict nutrition persepctive, her carbohydrate intake was much higher than where it should have been.  From a quality of life perspective, she was frustrated and lacked the confidence that I knew she possessed a few years ago.  From the outset, we knew that Anita would benefit the most from learning about nutrition, both as it applied to weight loss and to sustained healthy choices.  Next, our nutritionists focused on helping her allocate enough time during her day to focus on making good choices and being successful.

Q: What promped you to start working with OnPoint Nutrition?

A: My daughter recommended OnPoint as something to look into since I shared how bad I felt with her.  Then I looked around their web site and got inspired by Steven.  I had bowel issues that had begun to affect my daily activities, I was tired, my knees hurt, and I absolutely sounded like I ran a marathon after climbing one flight of steps in my home.

Q: What was most difficult to accomplish before you started losing weight?

A: Portion control was hard!  I had it in my head that if it was on my plate, I had to eat it.  Fast food became very easy.  I even didn't realize that drinking 12 cups of tea with sugar every day was no big deal.

Before working with the nutritionists at OnPoint Nutrition, Anita had tried all sorts of diets and fads, including skipping meals.  Her frustration ultimately led her to our weight loss process and systems.

Q: What have you learned since you began to work with the nutritionists at OnPoint Nutrition?

A: I have learned a lot.  I have a much better understanding of portion size, how our body digests food, and what is in processed food.  Now that I read food labels and have an understanding of nutrition, I am shocked at what the labels reveal.  I do not use the word "diet".  I use eating healthy.

Q: What do you like most about OnPoint Nutrition?

A: Let me count the reasons why I love this!

  1. I can do everything from my home

  2. I love having access to my nutritionist for a full hour each week

  3. The teaching about how to eat healthier and learning how the body works

  4. Just having someone help me to understand food!

Q: What has changed since losing 35+ pounds?

A: I have energy, my knees do not hurt, and my bowel issues are back to normal.  I no longer stay at home and avoid activities with friends and family.  I also know that I do not have to starve myself in order to go out somewhere. I have more confidence when I am out in public.  I don't think many people realize how self-conscous overweight people are on a daily basis.

Q: What are you looking forward to in losing your next 30 pounds?

A: Feeling the best I have felt in the last 25 years and being healthier!  Having the energy to do all the things that I used to only make a wish-list of...

In other words, I look forward to enjoying life without being held captive to food or held down due to weight.  I love "me" for the first time in ages.
