Nutrition Success - Shirley's Weight Loss Story

While working with our first client Steven, we were introduced to his twin sister, Shirley.  Shirley's non-stop schedule had led to years of frustration and yo-yo dieting.  Living, working, and going to school in the city that never sleeps is a challenge in itself.  Throw trying to lose weight on top of that!  Shirley succesfully lost 20 pounds during her 17 week journey, and continues to implement the strategies she has learned along the way to maintain her new healthy weight!

Shirley's Story:

"For the past 6 years I've gained weight, lost weight, gained weight, lost weight.  You get the gist. I would start diets and tell loved ones I was "cutting out everything that is bad for my body", which included carbs, sugars, and fats, on top of hitting the gym every day.  Unfortunately, it was impossible to stay in my “healthy” bubble and maintain this lifestyle. After a few months, I would decide to satisfy my cravings.  It was all downhill from there. One thing led to another. I would binge, and in a few months, I would gain back all the weight that I had lost."

Our Perspective:

After meeting Shirley, it became clear that she needed Nutrition 101.  Constant yo-yo dieting often results in unrealistic meal plans and restrictions.  Our goal was to teach Shirley the fundamentals of nutrition and weight loss, resulting in a healthier, happier Shirley.  Through building sound nutrition knowledge, Shirley would be able to enjoy those “not so great” foods occasionally without falling back into the vicious cycle that plagued her in the past.

Q: What prompted you to begin working with OnPoint Nutrition?

A: My twin brother Steven was definitely an inspiration.  I also wanted to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle, and enjoy foods that I loved to eat at the same time. My biggest struggle was portion control. Just thinking about going out to eat gave me anxiety!  Most importantly I wanted to become healthy for a future me.

Q: What have you learned since you began to work with the nutritionists at OnPoint Nutrition?

A: I have learned so much since working with OnPoint!  I now understand what nutrition really means for my body.  I have a better grasp of what portion portion control really is, and how to achieve balance on a daily basis.

Q: What has changed since losing 20 pounds?

A: I definitely have more energy throughout the day and feel more confident.  The lessons I've learned have changed my life forever, not only for me but for my future family!
